Job/Department Summary:

Working independently, under general supervision, Facilities Control Specialists are primarily responsible for the installation, monitoring, maintenance, adjustment and repair of electric, electronic, pneumatic and digitally controlled building automation systems which manage the most complex HVAC and refrigeration systems. This position proficiently uses building automation systems to diagnose and troubleshoot problems. Incumbent will estimate cost, time and materials for projects and participate in the maintenance and operations of applicable heating and air conditioning systems and equipment either remotely or on-site. Maintain and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties and perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures and maintain a safe and clean work environment. Incumbent will maintain records and logs, retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems and prepare standard reports. While some manual repairs and adjustments may be performed directly on HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment, these are ancillary rather than primary duties for the Facilities Control Specialist. Work may involve exposure to hazardous materials. Typical activities for each classification are not meant to be all inclusive or restrictive; incumbents may perform related work activities.

In addition to the duties of a facility controls specialists, the incumbent shall provide technical leadership to other staff members including but not limited to interpretation of engineer design methodology, directing new or retrofit control projects, developing sequence of operations, programming, and commissioning. Work with management to organize long term planning to modernize campus systems within constrained budgets. Continually improve internal metering capabilities and data capturing. Expand the knowledge of the team by enabling individual success and understanding of challenging concepts. Contribute to project development at early stages to assist design team in developing elegant cost effective solutions that meet the campus goals.

Facilities Management and Services (FMS) is a large, multifaceted department consisting of approximately 200 employees working various shifts and providing diverse administrative and operational services campus wide.

Required Education and Experience:

These abilities normally would be acquired through four or more years of experience in the following areas:

  • Progressively responsible skilled journey-level experience diagnosing, repairing and maintaining large, complex and sophisticated heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning and water treatment systems.
  • Experience installing, inspecting, servicing, repairing, replacing and calibrating building automation and control systems.
  • Experience using programming features of building automation systems.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills: 

  • Bilingual.
  • Experience with multiple protocols with a preference in BACnet.
  • Recent, relevant experience working with Schneider Electric TAC IA.
  • Recent, relevant experience working with Schneider Electric StruxuWare and Eco Struxure systems.
  • Recent, relevant experience working with Tridium Niagara software and Distech controls.

Time Base: Full-time

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm. 

CSU Classification Salary Range:  $80,460 - $117,216 per year (Step 1 - Step 20)
