Position Summary
The After-Hours Transportation Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring accessibility and mobility support for students with disabilities during evening operations. Working under the lead direction of the Special Programs and Services Coordinator, this position oversees SDS’s after-hours cart transportation services, ensuring students with mobility impairments receive timely and reliable accommodations. The role combines transportation coordination, student staff supervision, and administrative support while operating independently for much of the shift. Key Responsibilities
- Operate SDS golf carts after regular business hours to provide scheduled and on-demand transportation for students with mobility impairments.
- Provide after-hours supervision and guidance to student assistant cart drivers, including support during emergency situations.
- Coordinate transportation requests, update schedules, and provide clerical support for after-hours services.
- Assist with the placement and assembly of adaptive furniture to support accessibility needs.
- Serve as on-site lead staff during evening shifts, exercising independent judgment and providing coverage as needed.

Department Summary
Student Disability Services (SDS) in the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity provides a full range of accommodations and services to nearly 4,500 students with physical, psychological, and learning disabilities, facilitating equal access to the educational process. This is accomplished through direct service support, review of campus accessibility, adaptive technology, assessment, test accommodation, and a variety of other services. Accommodations vary according to types of disabilities and may include sign language interpreting; provision of alternative formats, such as electronic text or Braille; computer-assisted real-time captioning; test accommodations; advising; assistive computer technology; cart transportation services, and numerous other services. Provision of these academic support services, technology and advocacy promotes the retention and graduation of students with disabilities at SDSU.
Two additional programs are affiliated with the Student Disability Services. The first is funded by a federal TRiO-Student Support Services grant that provides enhanced services intended to increase graduation and retention rates of at-risk undergraduates. The TRiO-SSS program employs three professional staff. The second is a Workability IV program that is a cooperative contract between the state Department of Rehabilitation (DOR), SDSU Career Services and Student Disability Services, the purpose of which is to deliver enhanced career services to students with disabilities who are DOR consumers. The Workability IV program employs one full-time professional staff and one part-time support staff.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience, in alignment with the department’s budget and equity guidelines.
- Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 3 ($3,709).
- Salary step placement for internal applicants will follow the CSUEU Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,565 - $5,092 per month (Step 1 – Step 19).
- Future increases, including step advancements, are subject to contract negotiations.
