Position Summary

UCorp Employee Services Director (UCESD) provides leadership, strategy and oversight for the human resources (HR) area of the University Corporation. With a portfolio of approximately 200 auxiliary employees, the UCESD will use independent judgement in developing strategies and policies related to the auxiliary’s HR department. This includes recruitment, onboarding, staff oversight and training, compliance and policy development, and HR leadership and support to the various UCorp programs and employees. UCESD serves as a key member of the University Corporation leadership team, which involves both strategic planning and implementation. UCESD will also serve as a policy and compliance officer, providing regular review, assessment, revision and updating of UCorp’s HR policies and practices. UCESD also oversees specific projects and initiatives under the direction of the Executive Director. The UCESD supervises personnel within the HR unit.

Position Information

Leadership and Personnel Management

  • Leads, directs and supervises direct report(s) to achieve excellence in the performance of work assignments and in the identification, development and execution of strategic initiatives in support of department.
  • Addresses personnel matters arising from UCorp programs including employee recruitment, retention, performance management (organizational and individual), labor/employee relations, training, and development.
  • Collaborate with UCorp Program Director on staffing effectiveness of the auxiliary and develop strategic goals for improvement.
  • Participates as key member of the executive management team.
  • Inform and present UCorp’s insurance benefits program to the Executive Director as part of annual review.
  • Serve as liaison to campus HR as needed.

Operation and Compliance

  • Analyze and develop policies and procedures within and across organizational lines to review and improve workflow that ensures effective, efficient and continuous HR services for UCorp programs.
  • Work with insurance broker annually in managing UCorp’s benefit program for benefitted staff which includes managing open enrollment.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, county and CSU policies as well as improving the service component of UCorp HR department.
  • Provides collaborative leadership and effectively manage projects for daily auxiliary HR operations to ensure that new rules, regulations, or other changes in operations are communicated in a clear and timely manner to UCorp programs.
  • Advises and educates UCorp programs, employees, and stakeholders about relevant compliance requirements, trends, and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate semi-monthly payroll with accounting team to make sure payroll is processed correctly and timely and aligns with HR policies, guidelines, and practices at the Federal, State, CSU, and Auxiliary levels.

Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree or equivalent training and work experience.
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible and successful higher education administration experience, with a focus on human resources, policy and program management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience, proficiency and success:
    • In developing strategies to critically analyze and solve problems in a fast-paced, daily changing environment.
    • In the use of interpersonal communication skills, presentations, reporting and other strategies to effectively inspire, influence and lead others
    • In the identification and application of appropriate strategies to critically analyze, solve and prevent systemic disconnects in operational patterns
    • In the use of appropriate project management skills and solutions to manage institutional business and administrative practices and initiatives
  • Experience with Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Ability to work collaboratively at all levels (colleagues, management, staff),and effectively resolve sensitive matters.
  • Ability to analyze, problem solve, and conflict resolution strategies in human resources and business practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An advanced degree in HR management or a related field
