Department Information: The programs and services offered in the Department of Teacher Education are designed to prepare candidates for specific credentials required in the State of California. With five residencies, a bilingual, and a traditional teacher credential program, CSUB prepares over 80% of the teachers in Kern and surrounding CA counties. Position Description: The Department of Teacher Education at California State University Bakersfield accepts applications on an ongoing basis for our pool of part-time lecturers. 

Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year.  Applications in this pool ad will only be good for the current academic year. This pool will be closed effective May 31, 2027.  If you wish to be considered for the next academic year, you will need to apply to the new pool as it becomes available by June 15, 2027.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in education or related field 
  • Professional or permanent state-issued certification in an education field 
  • Five or more years of successful P-12 teaching and/or administrative experience 
  • Knowledge of research-based practices and strategies 
  • Knowledge of content area curricula and standards 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral 
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering equity, inclusion, and belongingness in the classroom and workplace 
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaborative curriculum design 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree is preferred
  • Expertise in content area at relevant grade level (e.g. social studies education, mathematics education, literacy education)
  • Experience as a mentor or coach in a preservice or in-service context (e.g. instructional coach, or early career teacher mentor)
  • Site based leadership 

Rank and Salary:  Lecturer. Anticipated salary range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. Full-time equivalent salary ranges are as follows (amounts prorated for part-time assignments): 

  • Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677 per month [Anticipated starting salary: $5,507 - $6,092 monthly]  
  • Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224 per month [Anticipated starting salary: $6,221 - $9,722 monthly]  
  • Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523 per month [Anticipated starting salary: $6,825 - $10,674 monthly]  
  • Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211 per month [Anticipated starting salary: $8,593 - $11,902 monthly]

Background Check:  A background check (including a criminal records check) must be satisfactorily completed. Offers of employment are conditional and may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Education Code 89521 Requirements:  Applicants will be required to disclose whether they have received a final administrative decision or final judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last seven years, only after a determination is made that they meet the minimum qualifications for the position, and before an offer of employment is extended. Applicants who reach the final stages of the application process must sign a release form that authorizes the release of information by the applicant’s current and/or former employers to the CSU concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct.

Out of State Employment: Per CSU-wide policy, all faculty who will begin initial employment (or return from a 12-month break in service) on or after January 1, 2022 are required to perform their work from within the State of California.  Faculty assignments include in-person duties that require an on-campus presence. 

Mandated Reporter:  The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. The person will also have a duty to report to the Campus Title IX Officer information pertaining to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct or exploitation, dating or domestic violence, stalking, and retaliation under the CSU Interim Nondiscrimination Policy.

Clery Act: CSUB's annual crime report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus centers, such as our Antelope Valley Satellite Campus, and on property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from CSUB. The report also includes policies concerning security on campus, such as alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, reporting crimes, sexual assault, and other subjects.
