University Enterprises Corporation at CSUSB ("UEC") supports the university's educational mission by providing quality services that complement the instructional program. The University depends upon UEC to provide services that cannot be supported with state funds. We’re responsible for business enterprises on campus including, but not limited to, dining, bookstore, convenience store, and vending services. We also serve as the grantee for federal, state, and local funding for research and sponsored projects.

Position Summary

Temporary, Staff, Non-Exempt, Full Time, Benefited position through 9/30/2026 (Appointment may be renewed annually based upon availability of funds, availability of work and satisfactory job performance). 

Salary: $3,200.00-$3,500.00 per month.

Location: CSUSB and PDC Campuses- Multiple Sites.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week. Typically, Monday-Friday from 8:00AM - 5:00PM. Evening and weekend availability is required.

Typical Activities

Under minimal supervision of the Program Direcotr, and Program Manager, the Lead Advisor/Coach will work independently to:

The Lead Advisor/Coach will perform the following essential functions to ensure the effective delivery of services for TRIO Upward Bound and TRIO EOC:
  • Provide Direct Services: Deliver academic, college, and career readiness support to high school students and adult learners at assigned program sites.
  • Lead and Supervise Part time Staff (Coaches/SAs): Mentor, train, and coordinate part-time Success Coaches and student staff to ensure consistent, high-quality services.
  • Recruitment and Eligibility Determination: Support participant recruitment efforts, determine eligibility, and review applications and supporting documents.
  • Case Management: Maintain a caseload of participants, keeping detailed and accurate records of all services and activities in the program’s student records management system (Blumen).
  • Educational & Career Guidance: Assist participants with exploring, applying, and enrolling into postsecondary education programs, workforce readiness resources, and certificate programs/training opportunities.
  • Financial Aid Assistance: Guide participants through financial aid processes including FAFSA, state and federal grants, scholarships, and loan programs.
  • Outreach and Representation: Represent TRIO EOC and Upward Bound programs at community outreach events, college admissions presentations, financial aid workshops, and parent nights.
  • Partnership Development: Build and maintain effective relationships with school staff, community partners, and other stakeholders to support participant success.
  • Program Coordination: Coordinate logistics for program activities, including transportation, field trips, workshops, and special events to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Training & Development: Develop and deliver training sessions for Success Coache/student staff to ensure consistent program delivery and professional development.
  • Policy Compliance: Adhere to all CSUSB, UEC, OPP, TRIO EOC, and TRIO Upward Bound policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with program managers and other OPP staff to align services, minimize duplication, and respond effectively to participant needs.
  • Travel Required.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional duties to support the success of TRIO EOC and Upward Bound programs as directed by the Director or Program Managers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience:
  • 3 years of relevant professional experience in (field/area, e.g., education, student services, program management).
  • Experience working with (specific populations, e.g., first-generation college students, TRIO programs, or other relevant groups).
  •  Demonstrated experience in competencies relevant to the role, such as program coordination, student advising, data management, outreach, or leadership is an asset.
  • Knowledge:
    • Principles and practices of academic advising, career counseling, and college access programs.
    • Financial aid processes, including FAFSA, state and federal grants, scholarships, and loan programs.
    • Postsecondary pathways (certificate programs, vocational/trade schools, community colleges, and four-year universities).
    • Barriers to education faced by first-generation, low-income, and
      system-impacted individuals.
    • Data management and reporting procedures, including use of student records systems such as Blumen.
    • University, state, and federal regulations related to TRIO and similar programs.
  •  Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
    • Effective leadership, mentoring, and training of part-time staff and student employees.
    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple priorities.
    • Skilled in outreach, recruitment, and community engagement.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and database systems.
    • Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills to support diverse student populations.
  • Abilities:
    • Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, school staff, and community partners.
    • Provide culturally responsive services to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
    • Work independently with minimal supervision while also functioning as part of a collaborative team.
    • Manage and maintain accurate participant records and reports.
    • Adapt to varying work environments (office, school sites, outdoor events) and flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends.
    • Exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to program policies and regulations.
  • Travel:
    • Regular travel between CSUSB’s San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses, partner school sites, and community locations within the program’s service area (Riverside and San Bernardino Counties).
    • Frequent travel to support outreach events, college visits, field trips, and workshops during weekdays, evenings, and occasional weekends.
    • Ability to transport program materials and supplies to and from event sites as needed.
    • Valid California driver’s license, proof of current automobile insurance, and CSUSB Defensive Driving Certification are required prior to driving on behalf of the program.
    • Occasional overnight travel may be required for conferences, trainings, or extended program events/activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in TRIO programs or other federally funded educational programs.
  • Strong knowledge of college access, retention strategies, and first-generation student support.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement programs, workshops, or initiatives that support student success.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with experience working collaboratively across departments or with community partners.
  • Proficiency in Office Suite, student information systems, and/or data management platforms.
  • Experience working with justice-impacted individuals.
