Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated salary hiring range is up to $120,000 - $155,000 per year and to commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position.

Area of consideration is limited to current employees of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. 

Appointment will be temporary and is anticipated to end on or before March 31, 2027. It may be extended beyond at the approval of the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Positions at Fresno State are to perform their work onsite. Some positions, depending upon University needs and operations, may be eligible for remote work, one day per week, pursuant to Fresno State's remote work guidelines and the CSU policy.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general direction and reporting to the Vice Provost, the Interim Director for the Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) provides leadership and management of OIE, working to advance institutional research, assessment, accreditation, institutional effectiveness, and data-informed planning. The Director supervises OIE staff responsible for the collection, maintenance, analysis, interpretation, validation, and communication of institutional data and oversees the timely and accurate completion of recurring university, CSU system, governmental, accreditation, and other required reporting. The Director establishes office priorities, assigns and monitors work, develops and maintains operating procedures and quality-control processes, manages office resources, and ensures effective and responsive delivery of OIE services. The Interim Director works collaboratively with campus stakeholders and units to promote consistent definitions, reliable institutional information, appropriate data governance, and effective reporting systems.

 

Key Qualifications

  • Emerging trends in higher education, best practices, procedures, and frameworks of data governance.
  • Principles and practices of effective leadership, motivation and performance evaluation.
  • Contemporary evidence-based practices, tools and technology in the development of new methods and procedures in institutional research and assessment.
  • Research reporting techniques; regression analysis, data visualization, treatment of data such as simple correlation methods, trend analysis, frequency distribution analysis, sampling techniques, hypothesis testing, and methods of interval estimation.
  • Provide guidance for evidence-based institutional change.
  • Manage personnel and budgets in a complex, multi-task environment. 
  • Assure integrity in the analysis of complex data sets; identify and troubleshoot data integrity issues within database system and reporting.
  • Develop collaborative procedures and processes related to data governance and shared ownership of data.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the essential values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, which are core to CSU Fresno’s mission and essential to achieving our student recruitment, retention, and graduation goals.
  • Facilitate group participation, consensus building and foster employee development through coaching, counseling, and training; solve problems, troubleshoot, think creatively, and resolve conflicts.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant fields required (social science, higher education, or a related field that includes statistical analysis and/or research methodology).
     
     
  • Minimum of six (6) years of professional experience of increasing complexity in higher education institutional research, program evaluation and campus planning, or a demonstrated record of comparable professional experience. 
  • Experience supervising, coordinating, mentoring, training, or providing lead direction to staff, or managing significant projects or team-based work.

 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or Doctorate preferred from an accredited institution with a focus in social science, higher education, or a related field that includes statistical analysis and/or research methodology.
  • Expertise with statistical software (e.g. SAS, SPSS, R), Qualtrics, Tableau, data warehouse, and dashboard applications.
  • Prior experience with university administrative organization, policies, procedures, and practices for institutional research-oriented roles.

The ASR contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for Fresno State for the last three (3) calendar years. Conflict of Interest 

The duties of this position will include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the selected candidate will be required to file Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest when they first occupy the position, and on an annual basis, complete ethics training within 6 months of appointment, and attend this training every other year thereafter.
