Duties and Responsibilities:

The Health Educator will focus on promoting Nutrition Education and Physical Activity within the community. This role involves leading physical activity classes to participants in classroom and public settings. Certification in Zumba and other similar activities will be provided by the employer. Additionally, this person is responsible for supporting the Project Coordinator in the management, planning and execution of the program deliverables, reporting, supervising staff and coordinating with decision makers partners, and community members.  Current California driver’s license and appropriate insurance coverage required. Will drive throughout the greater LA area and occasionally the Antelope Valley.

  • Provide education on nutrition and physical activity, Lead and instruct Zumba and other physical activity classes, including conducting pretest and posttest evaluations, documentations via PEARS database (i.e. internal tracking system), participate in outreach activities, and perform administrative tasks as needed.
  • The Health Educator will also collaborate with project and department staff to organize food distribution events paired with taste-tests and nutrition education at targeted and partner sites.
  • The Health Educator will participate in Los Angeles Department of Public Health (DPH) approved community events and work with DPH to conduct on-going evaluation to refine trainings as needed.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition science, Health Education or similar degree OR a minimum of two years of experience as a Health Educator in underserved communities.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to present in front of a group
  • Fluency in Spanish (speaks, translate, read and write) is required
  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 25 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to be flexible and work in a changing environment
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends is required

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

This position is employed through The University Corporation (TUC).

The anticipated hiring range: $20 - $25/hour

Full Pay range: $20 - $25/hour

Time Base: Full-Time

Benefits: Medical, Dental, and Vision
