PURPOSE:

Under the overall direction of the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs and day-to-day work direction of the Executive Director of Project Rebound the Project Rebound Coordinator will recruit and meet with prospective and program students to connect them with campus support services and resources. The program coordinator acts as a liaison with campus services and programs, as well as with community organizations in order to serve as an advocate for people on campus and in the community.  The incumbent also acts as a liaison with other Student Services departments. Coordinates wraparound student support services for Project Rebound students for college transition assistance, academic success strategies, financial education, career/leadership development and Guided Pathways; tracks and analyzes various college activities related to the Project Rebound program and advises campus leadership regarding changes within Project Rebound. Provides input in selecting, training and providing day-to-day lead work guidance and coordination of student staff; assigns, schedules and monitors work for completeness, accuracy and conformance; monitors workflow to ensure that mandated deadlines are being met in an optimal manner; provides information, instruction and training on work procedures and technical, legal and regulatory requirements. Assist the director with: cultivating and managing relations with community partners, campus staff, and volunteers to ensure that the program is effectively implemented and achieving its goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of recruitment, outreach, awareness, and strategic plans to advance the mission of Project Rebound. Foster a college-going culture among and build recruitment pathways for currently and formerly incarcerated people. Communicate with potential applicants regarding admissions requirements and processes, respond to all letters and inquiries. Conduct initial college assessment and provide detailed feedback to prospective students. Help prospective students prepare, apply, matriculate and develop an admissions plan. Help prospective students apply for financial aid and complete the steps needed to enroll. Assist with removing obstacles to academic enrollment (e.g., filing appeal forms for admissions, loan rehabilitation, probationary forms, etc.).
  •  Collaborate with community stakeholders, including government agencies, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations, to build partnerships and recruit prospective students.
  • Assist in the coordination and facilitation of volunteers and program participants to ensure the successful operation of the program.
  • Assist in program evaluation and data collection efforts to measure outcomes and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the management of the program budget and financial resources to ensure sustainability.
  • Represent Project Rebound in the community to increase prospective student awareness through public speaking engagements, meetings with community leaders and organizations, and other outreach activities. Conduct off-campus and on-campus outreach, recruitment, and informational sessions, including in jails/prisons.
  • Develop programming for students to assure academic, social, career and academic success strategies are assisting students toward graduation. Stay informed about best practices in the field of reentry services and make recommendations for program enhancements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Working knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.

Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi‑aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:                                                                                  

Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.

  • The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness. Knowledge of behavioral, emotional, social, academic trajectory of at-risk and diverse students and familiarity with the Project Rebound program and the CSUMB campus is preferred.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts.
  • Rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas.
  • Combines knowledge of higher education and criminal justice with social work expertise, adept in program planning, case management, and counseling for formerly incarcerated individuals.
  • Skilled in mobilizing community resources, grant writing, and building partnerships to support participant reintegration and academic success.
  • Exhibits empathy and cultural sensitivity, with strong communication skills for effective advocacy and participant support.
  • Utilizes data analysis and critical thinking for program evaluation, adapting strategies to overcome barriers and meet participant needs.
  • Demonstrates leadership and collaborative abilities, motivating participants and fostering a community that encourages growth and learning.
  • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned.
  • General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques, and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
  • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations.

Technical fluency with Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent <student/finance> information system; Microsoft Office Professional; Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar, Forms, etc.); 25Live; intranet drives; and internet browsers.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. The position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time.  May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
