Position Description

San Francisco State University, School of Nursing offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Pediatric Nursing beginning August 2025. We seek a colleague whose teaching and research interests include pediatric nursing and/or nursing education. We are especially interested in qualified candidates with a demonstrated commitment -- through their research, teaching, and service -- to the diversity and excellence of our academic nursing programs, experience and interest in simulation and an APRN background.

Required qualifications

  • Ph.D. or DNP in nursing or related area from an accredited program, and a BSN or MSN if a doctoral degree is not in nursing.  Terminal degree must be completed by the first day of employment.
  • Record of working and communicating effectively with colleagues and students.
  • One year of continuous, full-time experience in direct patient care practice as a registered nurse within the last five years.
  • Upon hire, the faculty member must be licensed as a registered nurse in California.
  • Evidence of/or potential for excellence in teaching, mentoring, and engaging diverse students.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the area of pediatric nursing.
  • Evidence of potential to produce scholarly work.

About the Department

The School of Nursing educates and empowers nurses to be agents of change to transform health care. We commit to co-create change by deconstructing, disrupting, and dismantling systems of oppression through the nursing profession. We have over 50 years of experience in nursing education and offer a wide range of nursing programs. We have programs that will assist the student to become a professional nurse with a BSN and programs that will assist experienced nurses to continue with specialized advanced practice. We currently have over 500 students advancing through our six programs.

 Our faculty includes skilled clinicians and advanced practice registered nurses as well as outstanding scholars and educators. Faculty have designed rigorous curricula at both the undergraduate and graduate levels with innovative classroom, clinical, simulation and community experiences to prepare our students to promote health and alleviate suffering for the global community of the 21st century.

Responsibilities 

The position requires graduate and/or undergraduate teaching in pediatric nursing, mentoring and advising graduate and/or undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing scholarship program in one’s area of specialty, and ongoing committee and service assignments.

Compensation                                                                                                             

The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is:

$98,000 - $100,000 annually (12 monthly payments per academic year).

Salary offered is commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition, the California Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying its employees less than those of the opposite sex and/or another race or ethnicity for substantially similar work (https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/california_equal_pay_act.htm).

Professional development funds, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
